The school district will now begin the process of renovating and upgrading all elementary schools in order to transition to a Kindergarten through 5th grade model, building a separate 6th grade academy at Furlough Middle School, building an Excellence Center for Enhanced Learning, building a multi-purpose facility at Terrell High School, and making safety upgrades at all TISD campuses.
"I am grateful to the voters of TISD for taking the first step in leaving a positive legacy on this district and community," said TISD Board President Dena Risinger. "Tonight, voters overwhelmingly chose to support our students, teachers, and schools. This bond election isn't just an investment in Terrell ISD; it is an investment in the future of Terrell, America."
"We sincerely appreciate the confidence that the community has shown in the Board of Trustees' and Citizens Facilities Team’s direction for the future of TISD," said Micheal French, TISD Superintendent. "Voters' willingness to invest in our school district will pay dividends for our students and this community for years to come."
Over the next six months, the District will start the design and development process with the architects and construction manager. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2016 with the goal of transitioning to the Kindergarten through 5th grade model in time for the 2017-18 school year.
"The real work now begins," said French. "As an administration, we are committed to allocating bond funds wisely and judiciously in implementing the goals of this bond program. Our goal is to continue to make this community exceedingly proud of its schools and facilities."
In addition to thanking voters, Superintendent French expressed his appreciation for the district's Board of Trustees, Citizens Facilities Team, the City of Terrell, the Terrell Chamber of Commerce, the Terrell ISD Excellence Foundation, the Tiger Family, and the community for their commitment and support of this bond package.
"The work by each of these groups was absolutely paramount to tonight's election result," said French. "They asked tough questions along the way and ultimately came up with a visionary plan for this school district. Each member of this team is owed a debt of gratitude for the extraordinary commitment to the students in our community."
Terrell ISD is committed to providing its students and staff with excellent facilities where exceptional learning takes place. The District’s mission has been, and will continue to be to improve student achievement in all areas.
