Preparation for the UIL competition involves students arriving either before or after school to practice their various events which involves test taking, writing and reading, collaboration with teachers and coaches, and expanding their knowledge on specific topics.
"I am extremely proud of the success that our UIL Academic team had during our competition,” said Phillip Bennet, FMS UIL Academic Coordinator. “This was the first time that many of our students competed in an academic event of any kind. The success of the students over the weekend has created a buzz on campus from other students asking about competing next year."
FMS took home six first place individual medals, five second place individual medals, seven third place individual medals, six fourth place ribbons, four fifth place ribbons, seven sixth place ribbons, four first place team medals, six second place team medals, and eight third place team medals. Congratulations to the following students on earning first place medals:
Seventh grade students Aniyah Butler, Lauren Nichols, Ryan Biffle, Amaiya Clay, Hilario Montoya, Jose Arius, Hilario Montoya, and Cameron King. Eighth grade students, Hosanna Henderson, Adia Hollis, Audrea Beehler, Evelyn Aviles, Paige Newberry, Sophia Ory, Collin Daws, and Haylie Potter.
