Volunteers across Terrell Independent School District continue to make a difference in the lives of students. At Herman Furlough Jr. Middle School, one volunteer exceeds expectations by going beyond the student drop-off lanes.

Furlough Middle School volunteer Youssef El Sibai spends his mornings giving back to his community and is the first face many students see each day as he directs traffic in the student drop-off lane. Instead of going home after the first bell rings, El Sibai makes his way to the STEM classroom to continue his volunteer activities.

“I volunteer to help change the lives of these kids,” Said El Sibai. “I had a hard childhood and school was difficult. The atmosphere was not good.”

El Sibai, who is a father of three and has one child attending Furlough Middle School, said through volunteering he has seen opportunities to make changes which keeps him motivated each day. As a business owner he is able to devote time each morning without taking away from other responsibilities.

Recently, El Sibai was honored by Furlough Middle School STEM teacher, Michael Daigrepont and Principal, Jay Thompson, for his outstanding volunteer work throughout the school year.

“He has helped me see the students from a different perspective,” said Daigrepont. “His viewpoint with different ideas and opinions has helped transform my classroom.”

Terrell ISD continually seeks volunteers for all campuses and grade levels. Those who are interested can visit www.terrellisd.org/Volunteer or stop by the TISD administration building located at 700 N. Catherine St. to submit an application.
