“The students get so excited when they see their illustrations and writing published into an actual hardback book. This event allows them to really show off and celebrate all of their hard work,” Mrs. Bailey said.
The project aimed to help students understand the steps of writing, from brainstorming, editing, rewriting, and revising. Students paired their writing with creative illustrations before sending it to be published. It was not until the Author’s Picnic that students saw their books.
“It was fun because we got to write about our own life,” shared GT student Baylie Dudynski. “I was excited for the Author’s Picnic, because I could finally see my book and show it off to my family.”
For two hours, TISD staff members, friends and family made their way to every table to chat with each student author and read their book. By the end of the event, it was undeniable how proud the students were of their work.
“I am so glad Ms. Bailey had us do this project. It was so much fun,” said Jakirian Allen.
Great job to all of our student authors, and a special thank you to all the friends, family and staff members who attended, making this a memorable event for our kids.
