Seventeen-year-old Reece Norris spent his Friday evening marching at the home football game with the Tiger Band and was being recognized for his vocal skills as a country artist just two days later. On Sunday, September 15, Norris was named the Junior Artist of the Year at the ninth annual East Texas Country Music Awards at the Texas Theatre in Athens, TX. This is the first award Norris has received for his vocal talents.
“I was completely shocked when they called my name as the winner,” said Norris. “It was exciting to be recognized for all of my hard work, and it was an honor to represent Terrell.”
The East Texas Music Awards event covers a total of 33 genres and media categories. Norris, who was one of five finalists selected from East Texas, was announced as a nominee in July 2019. Voting began on July 17 and ended on August 17 through the East Texas Music website. Next up on Norris’ calendar is the Texas Country Music Awards held on Sunday, September 22 at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth, TX. Norris is one of five finalists from across the state of Texas for Young Artist of the Year.
In addition to chasing country music stardom, Norris is a member of PALS and the Terrell High School golf team; he plays the trumpet in marching band and guitar in jazz band; and he is currently working towards his Eagle Scout project, which he hopes to have completed by graduation this May.
