Rice, who was named the 2019-2020 Region 10 Secondary Teacher of the Year in August, represented Terrell ISD and Region 10 at the state level. At the event, Rice had the opportunity to meet the other Region winners as well as participate in a special session with Mike Morath, Commissioner of Education for the Texas Education Agency.
“Attending the Texas Teacher of the Year celebration was truly an honor,” shared Rice. “I found myself surrounded by world-class educators and felt incredibly encouraged for the future of our youth within this great state.”
A proud Terrell Tiger from birth, Rice spent the entirety of his public education at Terrell ISD schools, and upon earning his teaching certification had a desire to only teach in his hometown.
“To be able to represent Terrell, not only my place of my employment, but the very community that I grew up in was truly one of the most incredible moments of my life,” said Rice. “Coming from a small town can sometimes lead people to believe they can only achieve small dreams. I hope my students, and our community, see that anyone from anywhere can excel in their field. I am proud to be from Terrell.”
While Rice was not named the 2020 Texas Teacher of the Year, his accomplishments continue to be celebrated and regarded with extreme pride.
“Micah is an excellent example of what a superb teacher accomplishes every day in today's classroom,” shared Dr. Bruce Wood, Interim Superintendent. “He builds respectful relationships with his students and demonstrates daily his cares for their well- being and academic success.
“There are many outstanding teachers in Terrell ISD, similar to Micah, who give their best for their students,” continued Wood. “As a former and now interim Superintendent for Terrell ISD, it is my high honor and great pleasure to be associated with such an outstanding group of learners, teachers, and administrators.”
Congratulations Mr. Rice on this esteemed honor. Thank you for representing our students and community with pride.
