A second consideration is the forecast for the day. We want to be sure our students and staff can arrive and return home safely. If a storm is predicted to arrive during the school day or if icy conditions are not expected to be alleviated during the course of the day, we take those considerations into account.
Third, we check our buildings to ensure that heating units are working and to check for burst pipes. Our maintenance staff also evaluates icy conditions on sidewalks and parking lots and works to contain any hazards those potentially create.
As far as timing, the decision on whether to open, close or delay schools will be made as soon as possible and TISD will send notifications via phone, email, and text message. TISD will also make every attempt possible to release information through the following outlets: terrellisd.org, facebook.com/terrellisd, twitter.com/terrellisd, Remind text messages, The Terrell Tribune, FOX Channel 4, KXAS Channel 5, WFAA Channel 8, and KTVT Channel 11.
As you know, forecasts can be unpredictable and unreliable. Regardless of the plans and preparation put in place, Mother Nature does not always cooperate. We appreciate your understanding as we work to make the best decisions for our students and staff in inclement weather situations and communicating our decisions in a timely manner.
