The Sterling Shining Star Award is an annual award that recognizes outstanding public school district employees who make a significant impact on their campus and in the lives of students. Persall nominated Jacobs for his dedication to his job, cheerful attitude and honorable work ethic.
“This is a man who walked to work every day or rode a bicycle because his vehicle was no longer fixable. He would walk in ice, rain or heat without complaining,” Persall said. “I am proud to call this man not only my employee, but also my friend. He is the most deserving person in our district to be nominated.”
Before Jacobs joined the TISD custodial team, he was a member of the United States Military, something he and Persall shared in common.
“He is an Army Veteran. I am a Marine Veteran. We both have the same get it done attitude,” shared Persall. “Keith was the one person who, when I first came on, saw my vision for the direction we needed to go as a unified group. He stood with me when it was not a popular position and now, our team is focused on our mission.”
Jacobs is one of four finalists for the Sterling Shining Star Award. The winner will be announced this month and will be awarded a $10,000 prize to be equally shared between the recipient and his/her school district.
