From the age of 10, Norris has played his guitar and performed for family and friends in their home, but it was not until his parents posted a video online of him singing that he decided to pursue a career in country music.
“They secretly filmed me when I was singing ‘Amarillo By Morning’ by George Strait and posted it online,” said Norris. “Once I saw the reaction after they posted the video, I was thrilled.”
The Facebook video garnered more than 1,000 views overnight and caught the attention of the Rodd Grimes Band, landing Norris his first gig at Sweetwater Grill in Royse City. Following his first public performance, Norris has since entered several music competitions across the state of Texas including the TXM Records Singer/Songwriter competition and the Rodeo Rockstar Competition at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. At the TXM Records competition, Norris was required to perform two original songs and one cover song. He competed with artists nearly twice his age, and to his surprise earned the New Horizon Wild Card award.
“All of the singer and songwriters were great and wrote heartfelt songs about their life experiences," said Norris. "Since I am only 16 and have limited experience, it is a challenge for me to write music people can relate to.”
Ultimately, Norris’ goal is to bring joy to people around him through his music, and it seems he has done just that. Since his first gig in Royce City, Norris has performed at a variety of events in the Terrell community, including Bruce Wood Elementary Annual Taste of Texas, The Terrell Chamber of Commerce Civic Auction, Small Business Saturday, the Terrell Art Walk, as well as many other local events.
Next on his calendar, Norris will head back to Houston to compete in the semifinals on Tuesday, March 5 at NRG Park as a result of placing in the top ten at the Rodeo Rockstar competition.
