Students were selected through a rigorous audition process where they competed against more than 1,000 students from surrounding areas. They were required to memorize scales and prepare two contrasting pieces of music. Additionally, students performed the same etudes at the audition, which is a short musical composition for one instrument. Only 200 students were selected for the two All-Region concert bands. The last time Furlough Middle School had students selected for the All-Region Band was Fall 2017.
“I am very proud of these four band students and their commitment to earning a position in the All-Region Middle School Band,” John Young, Director of Bands and Fine Arts said. “The entire staff of band directors worked very hard in helping all the students become better musicians. I would like to thank Nathan Ascano, Scott Duncan, Scott Olsen, Alana Sewell, and Derrell Wallace for their commitment to our TISD students.”
Olvera, Gonzalez, Rojas Garcia, and Armendariz will perform alongside the best middle school musicians in the region on Thursday, January 23 and Friday, January 24 at Poteet High School.
The Furlough Middle School Bands will host a Holiday Concert on Tuesday, December 10 at 6:30 pm. The performance will take place at the Jamie Foxx Performing Arts Center and will feature the beginner band as well as the 7th and 8th grade bands. The event is free and open to the public.
