The group visits and volunteers at the Share Center multiple times a year. DECA Sponsor, Ron Wesson, says the students will be back again in the spring to volunteer.
“I think it is important for our kids to know what it means to give back to their community, and to help those who are in need,” Wesson said.
The Share Center began in 1995 when Betty Glaeser, Wanda Massingill and Katherine Shumpert saw a need in their town and had the dream to meet it. Twenty years later, the Terrell Share Center services an average of 300 families per week providing not only free food and clothing, but also life skills development and educational resources.
“Our goal is to help people help themselves. We meet immediate needs like food and clothing, but it is also important for us to help equip our clients with tools and resources necessary to attain an education and employment,” Glaeser shares. “The support of our community and volunteers is what keeps this place going. It is so wonderful to see our Terrell students volunteering their time.”
DECA students walked away from the experience humbled and eager to volunteer in the future.
The Terrell Share Center, located at 103 Jones Street, accepts food, gently used clothing, and monetary donations. To learn more about volunteer opportunities please email [email protected].
