“The Fine Arts Department wanted to start this Christmas season by bringing the community together,” Young shared. “We were excited to showcase our programs in a setting that encompassed all TISD Fine Arts.”
The large audience was made up of parents, students, family and community members, and a few former Tiger Band musicians, including 2018 Terrell High School graduate and current member of the University of Texas Longhorn Band, Austin Harris.
“It’s great to come back and see a fine arts event like this,” said Harris. “It has been fun to see many of my former band members and friends perform tonight.”
While some current Tiger Band members were initially unsure of how the event would unfold, all were thrilled with the evening’s outcome.
“When the curtain came up and I realized just how many people were out there, I was so excited,” Alana Marroquin said. “I have never played for an audience that large.”
Fellow musician, Nathan Henriquez added how impactful and important it was to dedicate an evening to showcasing fine arts programs of all ages.
“Including the younger kids in this program is great, Henriquez shared. “Hopefully it will inspire them to participate in fine arts when they get to high school.”
With the first TISD Christmas Spectacular under his belt, Young looks forward to future events and opportunities to feature the talent and art of TISD students. He notes that this event marks the beginning of building and creating a fine arts program that will be seen as an integral part of the fabric of the District.
“I am excited about the future of our Fine Arts Department and the opportunities ahead of us,” Young said.
