“When we got the letters we were so excited,” Jonathan explained. “My brother and I have always had a strong sibling rivalry, and we push each other to do our best. I think of this as a way of extending our rivalry.”
Austin, Preston, and Jonathan plan to study Aerospace Engineering, while Jesse plans to major in Electrical Engineering. Not only do these four students rank in the top 10% of their class, but they also compete on the same Robotics team.
“When the high school began the robotics program I really loved it, and I knew it was something I wanted to do in college. I wouldn’t have known anything about engineering if not for that class,” Preston said.
When they went to share the big news with their Robotics teacher, Marcus Edwards, he knew by the look in their eyes and the smiles on their faces that they had all been accepted.
“I am so proud of these tenacious students,” Edwards said. “Our program encourages students to look at the impossible as an opportunity, and that’s exactly what makes these students so successful. I hope they follow their passions, shape the world, conspire for the good of others, and inspire future leaders!”
“The fact that four Terrell High School students got accepted into the UT Cockrell School of Engineering says so much about our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program,” Jonathan said. “We’re proof that if you are willing to put in the work, you can go anywhere.”
Congratulations to these outstanding students. We know you will go on to accomplish great things!
