GT Academy Director Bronwyn Vaughan organized the tour of the local clinic as part of a career readiness initiative. Vaughan’s goal is to identify what careers the students are interested in, and provide them exposure to as many as possible.
Not only did the students get a grand tour of the facilities, they were also invited to observe a surgery and dental procedure. Doctors Risinger and Turner, with more than 40 years combined experience in veterinary medicine, were happy to answer as many questions as the students could ask. When asked what aspiring veterinarians should do in high school, Dr. Turner encouraged the students to take as many science and math classes as possible.
“It’s about determination,” said Turner. “You don’t have to be the smartest kid in the class; you just have to work the hardest. No matter what you want to be, work hard and don’t ever give up.”
The GT students were inspired by the knowledge and expertise of the staff and the quality of the facility. TISD would like to thank Dr. Risinger and the staff at Risinger Veterinary Hospital for providing our students with this one-of-a-kind learning experience.
