“The band spends countless hours working on their performance for competition, all while supporting our team every Friday night,” shared Marvin Sedberry, Terrell High School Head Football Coach and Athletic Director. “It was our turn as a team to show them the support they deserve.”
Sedberry notes that many players had never seen the marching band perform since the team is already in the locker room by the time the halftime performances begin.
“Several players and coaches commented that they thought the show was awesome and felt being there for this experience brought them together,” said Sedberry. “We were happy to support the people who support us the most.”
“I have the utmost respect for Coach Sedberry and his football staff,” said John Young, Terrell ISD Director of Fine Arts. “To plan his practice schedule around the band's performance spoke volumes about their character and the character of the program as a whole.”
The Tiger Band did not disappoint their large cheering section. The tremendous performance earned the group a 1 rating, the highest achievable score, and advanced them to the Area competition. The announcement of their score sent waves of applause throughout the stadium, a well-earned reward following months of preparation.
“It was extremely fulfilling to see the students’ reaction to their rating after months of hard work,” said Christopher Adler, THS Band Director.
The band begins preparation for the marching competition in the spring, takes a short break in the summer, and reconvenes in July for summer practice. In grueling heat and bitter cold, the members of the Tiger Band show up year-round to train for marching season. One of the crucial components to preparing for competition are the Friday night football games.
“We rely heavily on our weekly football game performances to prepare the students for the skill of performing,” said Adler.
The Tiger Band will take to the field once again at the UIL Area B Marching Championship on Saturday, October 30 at CH Collins Field in Denton. They will be under the direction of Band Director Christopher Adler, Assistant Band Directors, Landon Adams, Jayden Bernal, and Cody Morrow and Colorguard Directors Nathan Ascano and Sarah Pichardo. The band will perform at 1:15pm. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.
Best of luck to the Tiger Band!
