“Mrs. Ellis has dedicated her life to the service and success of Terrell ISD,” said Dr. Georgeanne Warnock, Superintendent of Schools. “She will be greatly missed and we wish her the absolute best in this exciting new season of retirement.”
Following her retirement, Dr. Derrell Coleman, Terrell ISD’s current General Counsel, will step into Ellis’ role as the Chief of Staff. Coleman holds a PhD in Educational Administration and a Juris Doctor Law Degree from the University of Texas. Dr. Coleman has served as legal counsel for Dallas ISD, the Texas Education Agency, and for well-respected educational law firms. Additionally, he has served as the leader of Human Resources in Dallas ISD and Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. Coleman joined the Terrell ISD team in 2021. Coleman will oversee the entire Human Services department which includes the Executive Director of Student Services held by Shuck Wieland, the Director of Human Resources held by Melissa Nichols, Director of Recruitment and Retention held by Mathew Warnock, Director of Health Services held by Stephanie Taylor, RN, and Student Transportation coordinated by GoldStar Transit.
“I am grateful for the work of Ms. Ellis and her tireless devotion to the students and staff of Terrell ISD,” shared Coleman. “It is an honor to take the baton of leadership from her, and I, alongside my team, look forward to continuing the great work she began here.”
